Tsar Simeon the Great
864–927
Ruler of the Golden Age — Preslav, letters, and power.
Tsar Simeon moved the capital to Preslav and made Bulgaria the leading Balkan power. Under him the Preslav and Ohrid schools flourished.
The Golden Age links political strength to the book — a lesson the diaspora often recalls on May 24.
