Paisii of Hilendar

1722–1773

Author of Istoriya Slavyanobulgarskaya and awakener of the Revival.

Around 1762 Paisii wrote Istoriya Slavyanobulgarskaya — a call to self-awareness, kin, and language. The book circulated in copies and awakened national memory.

For Bulgarians abroad Paisii remains a reminder: know your history to know who you are.
