Saint Cyril

827–869

Creator of the Glagolitic script and missionary among the Slavs.

Constantine-Cyril the Philosopher created Glagolitic to translate worship into a Slavic tongue. With his brother Methodius he laid foundations for Slavic literacy that Bulgaria received and developed through Cyrillic.

For the diaspora, May 24 and Cyril’s name bridge language and books — wherever families live.
